Alice large follows “Curious and Curiouser”. It is a piece defined by a series of accidents. The block Alice was cut using my new scroll saw. When i was cutting back the paint, I realized that it was more interesting in the distressed form. The cutout Alice at the back happened because I noticed the shadow cast by the block Alice. I had to remove the back from the box to cut it on the scroll saw. The rabbit is from the same supplier as the rabbit in “Curious and Curiouser”, but smaller and hollow. The wood for the tree came from an arborvitae which was cut down 20 years ago and has been in the garden as a cat scratching post. The cat is from a pack of toy cats. The smile is actually a painted fingernail; it was the only thing rigid yet flexible enough to work
